A 14-year-old boy who died of a stab wound after a fight in Hamilton, Ont., Monday night, has been identified by friends as Jesse Clarke.

Police say the teen suffered a single stab wound after a fight between two groups of people broke out in the Lincoln Avenue and Gordon Street area shortly before 10 p.m. Clarke was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Sgt. Matt Kavanagh told CTV Toronto that 13 people were at the scene of the stabbing, but not everyone "actively participated in the assault." He said both groups of people "came together with the intent to assault each other" over "something that had transpired over the last few days."

Kavanagh said Clarke and the suspect were from both from the east end of Hamilton, and knew of each other.

An 18-year-old Hamilton resident has been charged with second-degree murder.

He appeared in court Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators are asking anyone with knowledge about the event to contact the Hamilton homicide unit at 905-546-4129 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
