Mayor Rob Ford and brother Coun. Doug Ford took time on their weekly radio show to slam the local media, calling them “pathological liars” and “sucky little kids.”

The Ford brothers made the comments on their Newstalk 1010 radio show which airs on Sundays.

“They’re like a bunch of little, sucky little kids,” said Doug. “They whine and cry and moan and they sensationalize and they lie through their teeth.”

The Mayor added: “They’re pathological liars, that’s what drives me nuts.”

On Monday, following a budget committee meeting, Doug Ford dodged reporters’ questions about his radio show comments and was heard muttering “bunch of pr**ks” as he entered his office.

The brothers’ comments come just days after the mayor returned from a trade mission to Chicago, where he felt that the accompanying press focused too much on who was paying for the trip rather than the mission itself.

Other councillors agreed with the mayor.

“Politics aside, councillors aside, media could have been talking more about what a great place Toronto is to invest in and do business in,” said Coun. Peter Milczyn.

During the Chicago trip the mayor said that the mission was “not costing the taxpayers a dime,” even though it was confirmed that taxpayers were covering the travel costs for several staff members and councillors.

Earlier this month the mayor was grilled by the press over allegations that he was using city resources to help coach a community football team. The mayor refused to comment on the allegations.

Now several councillors are chiming in on the seemingly rocky relationship between the mayor and the press.

“It’s a two-way street. You respect the media and the media respects you,” said Coun. Paul Ainslie.

“All of us would be better served talking about the issues in front of the city and talking about what we’re going to do to fix them, rather than continue to have a screaming match with someone with a microphone because you don’t like the question,” said Coun. Adam Vaughn.
