A Toronto-area clown is being honoured for bravery after saving two women from a confrontation with a stranger while wearing full clown gear.

Thornhill resident Shane Farberman, better known as "Doo Doo the Clown," was driving in the area of Front and Bathurst Streets on Sunday afternoon when he noticed a man acting strangely.

Doo Doo said the man was in shorts on a cold day, and was "jumping over cars" and pushing people walking down the sidewalk.

"This guy was obviously in distress," the clown told CTV Toronto's Scott Lightfoot on Monday.

Doo Doo followed the man in his car, and saw him confront two women.

He told CTV News Channel that he saw the man push one of the women before walking away from them. The man then turned back and chased them along the sidewalk.

The incident was captured on a dashboard camera, mounted in Doo Doo's clown car.

Doo Doo can be heard shouting at the women to get in his Hummer to get away from the man. The women jumped in the back of the SUV, squeezing in with two other clowns in full costume. Doo Doo then called 911.

While the group waited for police, the man tried to climb into the vehicle through a window, and dented the side of the car, Doo Doo said. He ripped off one of the Hummer's side mirrors and threw it on the ground.

"It wasn't a laughing matter... It was pretty terrifying," the clown said.

When police arrived, it took eight officers to hold the man down, Doo Doo said. The man was taken into police custody.

Doo Doo was honoured with a scroll for bravery for his role in the incident, presented by Toronto Coun. Norm Kelly at Toronto City Hall on Monday.
