A therapy dog that went missing after a tornado tore through a southern Ontario community last week has been reunited with its owners.

Fonzie, a greyhound dog that visits patients at hospitals and long-term care homes, was spotted by its owners just south of Angus, Ont. on Sunday morning.

"It was Fonzie trotting down the 56 County Road so I did a (U-turn)…and I parked and I went running after him," owner Roxanne Cronk told CTV Barrie.

Cronk was not able to catch up to her dog, so she hitched a ride with a woman who was driving by. When she finally reached Fonzie, Cronk said she called out his name.

"He started coming towards me. I kneeled down and as soon as I had my arms around him in the middle of the road, I broke down," she said. "I was so happy."

Environment Canada said a twister touched down in the small community last Tuesday. Three people suffered minor injuries and about 100 homes were affected by the storm.
