Council has voted to adopt the integrity commissioner's ruling that Coun. Giorgio Mammoliti should forfeit 90 days of pay, following a report that found he was in violation of the city's code of conduct after accepting an $80,000 gift.

The Ward 7 councillor had breached the city's code when he held a fundraiser last May, Janet Leiper wrote in the report.

The event was attended by more than 200 people. Tickets were sold at $500 per plate, or $5,000 for a table of 10. The company that organized the fundraiser paid Mammoliti an $80,000 gift from the profit generated by the ticket sales – an action which breaches an article of the city’s code of conduct, according to Leiper.

Mammoliti will now get a pay cut of just over $26,000 over three months. Toronto city councillors earn $8,678.95 per month. The total amount is still less than the amount of the gift, but it is the maximum penalty available.

Mammoliti has previously said he plans to appeal the ruling.
