A group of Canadians have set a Guinness World Record for longest television marathon after watching a series of shows for 91 hours in a row.

The previous record was 90 hours, set earlier this year by Erik Pettersson in Stockholm, Sweden.

The group started at 1 p.m. on Monday, in a glass house specifically constructed for the event, as part of the launch of Bell Media's CraveTV streaming service. The record was broken 91 hours later, at 8 a.m. on Friday.

Participants earned five minutes of break time for every hour of TV, meaning they were allowed to sleep only two hours per day over 3.5 days. The group was frequently checked by a team of medical experts and two people were sent home after medical checks. Representatives of CraveTV posted on Twitter that both were feeling better after getting some rest.

Four of the six people who started Monday made it to Friday: Blake, Cam, Jasmin and Lisa.

Those who broke the record will get a $5,000 cheque and a Guinness World Records certificate.
