Travellers taking off from Pearson International Airport today should be prepared for longer lineups and delays on what officials are calling the busiest day of the holidays.

Roughly 121,000 people will travel through the Toronto-area airport on Friday.

Pearson officials have advised passengers to keep holiday gifts unwrapped, since screening officers may be asked to open them during security checks.

Liquids, gels and aerosols should also be kept out of carry-on bags in order to minimize delays.

Passengers should also be aware that in September, Air Canada and WestJet instituted a $25 fee for their first checked bag.

Travellers can check to see the status of their flight on the airport's website, but as of Friday morning the majority of departures are on time.

In the three-week period surrounding Christmas, almost two million passengers will make their way through Pearson International Airport.
