An eight-year-old boy suffered serious injuries in a two-car collision in Mississauga involving a police vehicle on Friday night.

The boy was transferred to a Toronto hospital after the Mazda sedan driven by his mother collided with a marked Peel Regional Police cruiser in the intersection of Erin Mills Parkway and Sheridan Park Drive just after 9 p.m.

Police said the on-duty officer was not travelling to a call. The boy's mother and the on-duty officer suffered minor injuries and were treated and released from hospital, police said.

Police said no charges have been laid and the investigation is ongoing. Police say they would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision.
