Liberals to re-introduce provincial budget

The governing Ontario Liberals will present their do-over budget at Queen's Park today.

Premier Kathleen Wynne plans to re-introduce the same fiscal plan that triggered the June 12 election, and drew criticism from both the Progressive Conservatives and the New Democrats.

Highlights of the budget remain the same: $130 billion for infrastructure over a decade (including $29 billion for public transit and transportation projects), a made-in-Ontario pension plan, $2.5 billion over 10 years in corporate grants and $1 billion for a transportation route to the Ring of Fire mineral deposit in the north.

Deal reached to avert lockout of Guelph transit employees

Guelph Transit will not shut down today.

Ahead of the midnight lockout deadline, the City of Guelph and the Amalgamated Transit Union have reached a tentative agreement after a day-long meeting with a provincially-appointed conciliator.

TRAFFIC

The intersection of Spadina Avenue and Dundas Street West is partially closed starting today, due to track work to prepare for new TTC streetcars. Traffic on both Dundas and Spadina will be reduced to one lane in each direction until July 28.

Traffic is building on the eastbound Queen Elizabeth Way at Southdown Road, just east of Erin Mills Parkway due to a tractor trailer rollover. The left and centre lanes are open until 9 a.m. to improve traffic flow during rush hour, then Ontario Provincial Police will close all the lanes for an investigation.
