Toronto Hydro says approximately 115 customers are still without power following a powerful wind storm that blew through the city, knocking down trees and hydro poles.
A deep low pressure system heading north from Texas caused gusts of approximately 100 km/h on Monday afternoon and evening, causing damage to buildings, trees and signs.
In Toronto, gusts reached 98 km/h, but were as high as 107 km/h in the Western Islands of Georgian Bay.
At the height of the storm, about 10,000 people in Toronto were affected by the outages. Hydro One reported that 87,000 were in the dark across the province due to the winds.
As of 8 a.m., Toronto Hydro estimated that power had been restored to 6,000 Toronto customers. By 9:30 a.m., 8,000 affected customers had power back on, and by noon, 9,000 had power.
The company brought in additional resources for the morning and afternoon shifts, but a representative told CP24 that wind on Tuesday morning made repairs difficult.
Toronto Hydro's Tanya Bruckmueller said the company is aiming to have all power restored by the end of the day.
Police are reminding the public that downed power lines are dangerous, and should not be approached. The City of Toronto asks all residents to report debris and downed lines by calling 311.
