Toronto Mayor Rob Ford took another opportunity to showcase his Jamaican accent in the latest episode of his weekly web series Ford Nation, called "From Jamaica with Love."
In the video posted Thursday, Ford and his brother Coun. Doug Ford spent the three-minute segment reading fans' letters about the mayor's appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" last month.
About two and a half minutes into the segment, Doug Ford read a letter he said is from a fan in Jamaica.
"I'm a Jamaican and I just watched the Jimmy Kimmel show. I wanted to write to you to say I think he was too hard on you. A lot of his comments were just mean," the councillor read.
"I just wanted you to know Jamaica loves you. We need mayors and ministers like you down here, and the world needs more leaders like you. Please come and visit."
Then Doug asked his brother if he'd go to Jamaica, to which Rob replied, "yeah, mon."
"Me, I'm goin' to Jamaica, mon," he added with a smile.
The Ford brothers also read letters from Nova Scotia, San Francisco and Niagara Falls.
The mayor revealed his penchance for accents in January when a cellphone video was posted to YouTube entitled "New Video of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford Drunk, Swearing in Jamaican Patois?"
In the video, the mayor adopts a Jamaican accent while rambling at a fast-food restaurant in Etobicoke's Rexdale neighbourhood. It is difficult to make out exactly what the mayor said in the video, but he references Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair and being "chased down."
When asked about the incident, the mayor said he'd been drinking that night, and that the video was "unfortunate."
"I had a minor setback," he told reporters at city hall. "We all experience these difficult bumps in life. I am telling Toronto residents that I'm still working hard every day to improve my health and well-being."
