TORONTO - Premier Kathleen Wynne says there is a lot of frustration over the fact that there's still no tentative contract agreement with the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario.
The teachers union was fuming after the Public School Boards Association put out a statement Wednesday saying there has been progress but talks have stalled on two issues: sick leave and benefits.
ETFO called it a hostile move that undermined any goodwill and progress made at the bargaining table, and said the union would re-evaluate how it was going to proceed.
But Wynne says the boards were frustrated and knew parents didn't understand why there wasn't an agreement after three other teachers' unions have reached tentative deals, so they put out the statement.
And she says the good news from the boards' statement is that there are only two issues left to be resolved.
ETFO president Sam Hammond says the union was waiting for the call to reconsider the latest offer and return to the bargaining table, but instead the boards "used the media to sidestep the negotiations."
