A three-year-old boy suffered minor burns after a woman sprayed an “unknown” substance on his neck and ears as he waited in line for movie tickets with his father, Toronto police say.

Police say the bizarre attack occurred at the Humber Cinemas Theatre on Bloor Street West near Jane Street around 3:15 p.m. Saturday.

The boy and his father were in line purchasing tickets when a woman approached the boy and sprayed an “unknown burning substance” on his neck and ears, police allege.

“The unknown woman immediately left the theatre” and was last seen walking eastbound on Bloor Street West, police said in a news release.

The boy was taken to hospital with minor burns.

Police are seeking the woman, described as black and middle-aged. She was wearing a purple dress, black shoes, black coat with writing on the back, brown scarf and a brown hat. She was also carrying a FRESHCO reusable shopping bag.

Police have released video surveillance images of the woman and are asking anyone with information to call them at 416-808-1100, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
