Women living in Toronto's Annex neighbourhood are being warned to keep their windows and doors locked after one resident awoke in the middle of the night to find an unknown man standing above her.

The woman was asleep inside her Spadina Road apartment, located just north of Dupont Street, when she awoke to find the stranger in her room just after 4 a.m. -- touching her.

Police say a male suspect fled from the scene after the woman started screaming, alerting her neighbours to the situation. A male neighbour rushed over.

The woman was not injured in the incident. However, it turned out her door was unlocked.

Police in 53 Division said they deployed their K-9 unit to the scene to search for a suspect but to no avail.

There was a second incident involving a woman in the same general age range. Police say the man was not known to the women.

The general boundaries of the areas in which the offences occurred are Bloor Street West, Spadina Road, St. Clair Avenue West and Yonge Street.

They are looking for a man who is believed to be between the ages of 20 and 30, with brown skin and weighing about 160 lbs. He has a pockmarked face and is bald. The suspect was reportedly wearing blue jeans and a light-coloured jacket.

"If anybody was in the area ... contact police. It could be the information police are looking for," Const. Wendy Drummond said.

Anyone with information is being asked to call police at 416-808-5300 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS.
