A woman is in hospital with life-threating injuries after a six-vehicle crash on Highway 400 shut down several lanes near Barrie on Wednesday.
The woman, who is currently listed in critical condition, was taken to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie.
Officials from Ornge told CTV News that she was to be airlifted to St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto.
The OPP reopened all northbound lanes of Highway 400 Wednesday night.
Officials say the remaining southbound lanes are expected to reopen shortly.
OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford said the crash involved six vehicles, including a small truck and a tractor trailer carrying lumber.
Police say the lumber truck was travelling southbound when it lost control as traffic ahead of it was slowing down for a crash further down the highway.
The truck rear-ended a cube truck, forcing it through a guard rail and into oncoming traffic where it hit a Honda Civic and a minivan.
Two other vehicles in the southbound lanes were also involved.
Police continue to investigate.
