Two people sustained serious injuries following a two-vehicle crash in Markham early Wednesday morning, police say.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Kennedy Road and Denison Street, north of Steeles Avenue, shortly after 2 a.m. for a collision.

Police said two people were rushed to a trauma centre with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Images from the scene showed the two vehicles both sustained extensive front-end damage. The cause of the crash is unknown at this time.

A duty inspector with York Regional Police told CP24 that investigators are looking to speak with any witnesses, or anyone who may have dashcam footage of the incident.

Road closures are in effect in the area.
