Two pedestrians were taken to hospital Tuesday morning after being struck by a tow truck in Toronto's Cabbagetown neighbourhood.

Both people -- a 59-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman -- were taken to Sunnybrook Hospital by Toronto EMS after being struck at the corner of Carlton and Parliament Streets around 7 a.m., said police spokesman Clint Stibbe.

The woman suffered life-threatening injuries in the incident, while the man sustained minor injuries.

The intersection was closed for several hours as police investigated.
