Another pedestrian has died on the streets of Toronto after being struck by a vehicle at Symington Avenue and Davenport Road, while a pedestrian injured Sunday has also succumbed to his injuries.

The latest accident occurred Monday at about 6:30 p.m.

Toronto Police say the victim is a 38-year-old woman. Staff Sgt. Devin Kealey told ctvtoronto.ca the northbound vehicle struck her while turning left as she was crossing the street on the west side of the intersection.

Witness Michael Hinds told CTV Toronto that "she was actually under the car. The car dragged her. The vehicle came to a complete stop, and the lady was still in the middle of the road with blood all over her."

Hinds called 911 as other people tried to comfort the dying woman.

The driver of the Dodge Durango SUV remained at the scene, Kealey said.

Sgt. Tim Burrows told reporters at the scene that the pedestrian might not have been crossing within the marked crosswalk. The light was green for the driver, he said.

The other person to die is a 35-year-old man struck by a streetcar at 12:30 a.m. at Queen Street East and Broadview Avenue.

He had been crossing the road from south to north and talking on his cellphone when hit. He was not at a marked crosswalk.

Paramedics took him to hospital with life-threatening head injuries. Police say the victim died of those injuries in St. Michael's hospital on Monday.

The man and woman are the seventh and eighth traffic fatalities in Toronto so far in 2010. That means a total of 14 pedestrians have died in the GTA in the past two weeks.

"There's human error going on here, and whether we want to lay blame or fault, we can truly say is that mistakes are being made that are unnecessary and that are leading to people dying," Burrows said.
