Two men are dead following a crash in Hamilton on Tuesday morning.

Police said three vehicles collided on Highway 6, between Chippewa and Haldibrook Roads, shortly after 7 a.m. At least one of the cars caught fire.

One man was found without vital signs, and was pronounced dead a short time later.

A second man was taken to hospital in critical condition, but later succumbed to his or her injuries. Neither victim has been identified, but police said they were 19 and 44.

Provincial police warned Hamilton residents that a section of highway would be closed for several hours following the fatal collision. It reopened Tuesday afternoon.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt initially told media that three people were dead and a fourth was injured. A few minutes later, they retracted the information.

Schmidt said the incorrect information came from Hamilton police. Upon arriving on scene, Schmidt found that one had died.
