SPRINGWATER, Ont. -- Environment Canada is confirming a ninth tornado of the twister season touched down northwest of Barrie, Ont., last week.

It says a tornado rated at zero, with ground winds speeds of 90 kilometres per hour, was spotted in Springwater last Friday afternoon.

The weather service says the twister caused no significant damage.

The EF or enhanced Fujita scale rates tornadoes from zero to five, with zero the least powerful.

Environment Canada says there are on average 12 verified tornadoes in the province during twister season, which runs from late April to early October.
