Three teens have been injured after being struck by a vehicle in the city’s Don Mills neighbourhood Monday night.

It happened at Don Mills Road and Lawrence Avenue at around 8:30 p.m.

The youths were struck following a multiple-vehicle crash.

According to police, a Honda CRV was travelling west on Lawrence Avenue, west of Don Mills Road, when it struck the rear of a Hyundai. A third vehicle was hit following the initial collision, police said.

The CRV left the road and struck the three teens – two boys and a girl – on the sidewalk on the north side of the street.

“Two of them flew in the air,” a witness, who identified himself only as Chad, described.

They were not wearing Halloween costumes, he said.

“It looked like maybe they were just shopping.”

Bystanders were quick to try and help after the three were struck.

“At first, they weren’t making any sounds,” he described of the victims. “Within a few minutes, you know, you could hear them, so we knew at least they were alive.”

Another woman said she was driving when she was nearly hit by one of the vehicles involved in the crash.

“He just missed me – almost hit my left side,” Laura Moldovan said.

She said the vehicle then struck two vehicles before being “catapulted” towards the children on the sidewalk.

One of the boys and the girl were transported to a trauma centre with serious injuries, paramedics initially said. In an update provided late Monday night, police described the girl’s injuries as life threatening.

The second boy sustained only minor injuries, police said.

The 35-year-old driver of the Hyundai is currently in custody. He is facing alcohol-related charges, police said. The 44-year-old driver of the CRV was also arrested. No information on the charges they are facing was immediately provided.

The area remains closed down as officers continue to investigate.
