Police are investigating the theft of 2,700 BlackBerry smartphones from a warehouse in Mississauga, Ont., earlier this month -- a heist that's believed to be worth about $1.1 million.

Three skids of BlackBerry 9810 phones were taken between the evening of August 19 and the evening of August 20.

Officials said 900 grey phones and 1,800 white phones were taken, according to investigators.

Police said the thieves may have a difficult time selling the devices because the identification and PIN numbers have been tracked.

Purchasing or possessing a stolen smartphone is a criminal offence.

No suspects have yet been arrested, according to police.
