Terri-Lynne McClintic is facing an assault charge stemming from an incident at the Grand Valley Institution for women in Kitchener, her lawyer said Friday.

Defence lawyer Geoff Snow said the charge is related to an alleged altercation with another inmate on Jan. 30.

McClintic appeared in a Kitchener court on the assault causing bodily harm charge by video link Thursday.

Snow told CTVToronto.ca it's still too soon to determine whether his client will take the charges to court or plead guilty.

McClintic is already in prison serving a life sentence, after pleading guilty in April 2010 to the second-degree murder of Victoria Stafford.

The latest charge is being made public now due to a court appearance McClintic made at Michael Rafferty's first-degree murder trial. During testimony, McClintic said she kicked and stomped on another female inmate.

Rafferty is accused of raping and killing eight-year-old Victoria Stafford in 2009.
