A taxi driver is dead and his passenger seriously injured after a fiery crash in Brampton in the early hours of Friday morning.

Police say a white taxi and a Honda Prelude collided in the intersection of Bovaird Drive and Dixie Road just before 1:30 a.m.

A Nissan Altima was then struck in the immediate aftermath of the collision, though Const. J.P. Valade told ctvtoronto.ca that it is not yet clear which car was involved in the secondary collision.

The cab burst into flames and the male taxi driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

His passenger, a 21-year-old Brampton woman, was rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The 19-year-old male driver of the Honda Prelude was airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre with serious injuries.

The driver, Jaikar Gill, was treated and released from hospital. He now faces criminal charges in relation to the crash, including a single count of impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

The people inside the Nissan Altima were not injured in the crash.

Police are still investigating the fatal collision and are looking for witnesses.
