A man is due in court today after Niagara regional police say officers were confronted by a suspect with a sword.

Police say it happened Tuesday in St. Catharines when police tried to arrest a suspect after he failed to remain at the scene of a collision involving a cyclist.

It is alleged that the suspect armed himself with a sword and confronted the officers who went to arrest him at a house.

An emergency unit was called in and the suspect was taken into custody three hours later.

Matthew Golin, 28, is charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident, driving while disqualified and assault with a weapon.
