The suspect in a double shooting in Port Perry that left one man dead has surrendered to police.

"Danny Nguyen, age 27, attended the DRPS station in Oshawa this morning and surrendered after seeking advice from legal counsel," Durham Regional Police said Monday afternoon in a news release.

Police say he has been charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace.  Nguyen is to make an initial court appearance on Tuesday.

Police had issued a Canada-wide warrant for Nguyen on Friday.

The shooting occurred Thursday at a residence in the small town north of Oshawa.

At about 4:30 p.m., the surviving victim knocked on a neighbour's door to say he'd been shot. The witnesses say he had two gunshot wounds in his back.

Police identified the homicide victim as Andrew Lee Shue, 43, a Toronto man who resides on Morningside Avenue.

Police say the three men knew each other and used to frequent area casinos together. They also say the survivor of the shooting has provided a statement about what happened.

No allegations against Nguyen have been proven in a court of law.
