A 17-year-old male student suffered serious injuries after he was stabbed outside a Mississauga high school Monday afternoon.

The victim was stabbed by the front doors of Lincoln M. Alexander Secondary School at around 10:30 a.m. and was seeking help inside when someone made the emergency call, police said. The teen was later taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The school, located in Mississauga’s Westwood neighbourhood around Rexdale Boulevard and Goreway Drive, was placed under a hold and secure so police could properly investigate. Police searched the area and an announcement was made to teachers and students at the school, explaining the situation and urging students to stay in class.

But some worried parents decided to pick up their children after hearing what had happened.

Around 2 p.m., the hold and secure was lifted from Lincoln M. Alexander Secondary School.

Students who were on the scene told CP24 they saw a fight break out when four students from a nearby school attacked the victim. They said the 17-year-old was in Grade 12.

"I just can't comprehend what's going on right now," one student said. "Everyone in the school... we're not used to all of this stuff and we're all scared."

Police said other schools in the area -- Ridgewood Public School, Holy Cross School and Corliss Public School – were also placed under hold and secure. Around 2:30 p.m., those orders were also lifted.

Police said they are looking for suspects and reviewing video surveillance footage from the school while the victim recovers. They are not releasing any more information.

No arrests have been made.
