A high-speed freeway chase ended in Brantford with the arrest of a driver who was behind the wheel of a car which was missing one of its wheels on Wednesday.

Police said the driver and a passenger were arrested after leading police on a chase Wednesday morning that began in Vaughan, Ont., and ended on Highway 403 several kilometres away.

CTV Toronto learned that the chase reached speeds of 160 kilometres an hour, despite the car under pusuit missing one of its rear wheels.

Police were forced to call off the chase on several occasions because it was deemed too dangerous.

Police said an unmarked police car tried to pull the car over when the driver sped off along Highway 407, heading west onto Highway 403.

The suspect eventually lost control of the Toyota Camry and ended up in a ditch on the Wayne Gretzky Parkway near Brantford late Wednesday morning.

Police say the suspect ran to a nearby shopping plaza, where he was quickly arrested. A woman inside the car was also arrested.

It is believed that the driver was wanted on a Canada-wide arrest warrant when the chase began.
