The City of Toronto has issued an extreme cold weather alert as it anticipates temperatures to drop to -13 Celsius by Saturday evening.

Extra beds will be opened at homeless shelters in the GTA and TTC tokens will be handed out to help those in need of  shelter to get there.

An extreme cold weather alert is usually called when Environment Canada predicts temperatures of -15C without wind chill, or when extreme weather is expected.

Another system is expected to roll through Toronto on Tuesday, although it may bring rain, not snow.
