The Special Investigations Unit was back in North York Friday, trying to speak with anyone who may have seen what happened to a teenager who died during a confrontation with police last week.

However, by the end of the day, investigators had no new information in the case.

Junior Alexander Manon, 18, collapsed, as he attempted to flee the police on foot after officers pulled over his vehicle on Steeles Avenue West at Founders Road, near the York University campus on May 5.

His family and friends have accused police of beating the young man to death. On Friday, the teen's father placed posters on car windshields, asking witnesses to call the Manon family's lawyer..

The SIU says it will need to speak with more witnesses before determining if the officers on duty are indeed responsible.

They have stationed a command post at the scene in hopes that witnesses will approach them with information.

"Any witnesses would benefit our investigation," said SIU investigator Derek Wide. "We want to be sure that we speak to anyone who has information to offer. Anything at all would be of value to us. Anything leading up to it and even post contact with the police."

The SIU will not release any details about their investigation, including autopsy results, until they close the case.

In the meantime, Manon's family and friends have protested outside the 31 Division police station and have continued to hold vigils at the site of the incident, leaving flowers and notes behind.

The teen's friends told ctvtoronto.ca that Manon was trying to "work his way up to a better life."

"He didn't deserve (this)...no matter how many flaws he had in this world," the friend said.

Two Toronto police officers have been named subject officers and eight officers have been named witnesses by the SIU.

The SIU investigates all cases where civilians are seriously injured, assaulted or killed while in the presence of police.
