Road closures and TTC service changes to impact Toronto traffic this weekend

Road closures around Toronto and TTC route changes may make any travel plans on the first weekend of 2025 longer than normal.

Here are all the planned closures and changes to expect.

Road closures

Two ramps of the Don Valley Parkway (DVP) will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. both Thursday and Friday.

The City of Toronto says the Dundas Street East North ramp to the Riverdale pedestrian bridge will be closed during those times for bridge rehabilitation work. One northbound left lane will be open for traffic.

During that same time frame, the DVP South will see two right lanes closed from Riverdale Park East to Gerrard Street East to accommodate the same bridge work. One southbound left lane will remain open.

Travellers should also be aware of several closures around TTC stations.

The city says southbound curb lanes through the Queen and Victoria streets intersection will be closed all day both east and west of Yonge Street from Jan. 1 until June 30. Queen is fully closed between Victoria and Bay streets for staging at Queen Station.

Osgoode Station also began site staging on Jan. 1. As a result, one southbound lane on Simcoe Street between Queen Street West and the Simcoe Laneway will be closed all day until June 30. Northbound lanes of University Avenue will be shifted west to accommodate the work.

Spadina Avenue south of Bulwer Street has closures during the same time period for staging for the future Ontario Line Queen-Spadina Station. The northbound parking lane will be occupied on Spadina Avenue as a result.

TTC

Several planned service changes along various TTC bus routes come into effect Sun. Jan. 5.

TTC says starting that day, the Warden Station bus terminal will close for three years for demolition and construction of an accessible station with two new elevators.

The south commuter parking lot will be converted into a temporary bus terminal and four bus stops will be available outside the station on Warden Avenue. A temporary waiting lot for customer pick-up and drop-off will also be available off Warden Avenue, south of the new temporary terminal.

A total of 12 routes will be affected by the Warden Station closure.

Another change coming into effect Jan. 5 is the reinstating of the 124 Sunnybrook route operating between Sunnybrook Hospital and the Roe Loop via Lawrence Avenue West and Avenue Road, as construction at the Lawrence West Station nears completion. The 52 Lawrence West bus will stop servicing Sunnybrook as a result. 11 Bayview buses will also resume normal routes between Davisville Station and the hospital, and other routes will restart operations at the Lawrence West Station including the 952 Lawrence West Express and 59 Maple Leaf.

The 37 Islington and 336 Finch West Night routes will start servicing Woodbine Racetrack on Jan. 5.

On that same day, 25A/B Don Mills and 925 Don Mills Express buses will start diverting to Broadview Station via O'Connor Drive and Broadview Avenue, due to Ontario Line construction at Pape Station. 25A/B buses will serve all local stops en route to and from Broadview Station while 925 buses will only serve stops at Broadview and Cosburn avenues. 325 Don Mills night buses will continue to service Pape Station.

The 510 Spadina replacement service will also change Jan. 5. B buses will resume operations between Spadina Station and Queens Quay West. C buses to King Street West and D buses to the Exhibition Loop will both be removed.

Existing streetcar service changes will carryover from 2024 and continue to affect four routes: the 501/301 Queen route, the 509 Harbourfront route, the 511 Bathurst route, and the 510/310 Spadina route.

There are no planned subway closures over the weekend.

GO Transit

There are no planned service adjustments on GO train lines this weekend.

Regular GO Bus service will resume on Sat. Jan. 4 after operating on holiday schedules including bus routes at post-secondary institutions.

Some bus schedules will also be adjusted to start 10 minutes earlier or later than usual.
