Police say that the man found behind a North York coffee shop was the victim of a homicide.

Officers were called to a laneway in the Sheppard Avenue West and Bathurst area at about 7 a.m. Monday. A Starbucks employee called 911 after he discovered the victim while taking out the trash.

Police initially treated the death as suspicious, saying the victim had suffered obvious signs of trauma to his body.

Forensic investigators later searched through nearby dumpsters.

The victim was later identified as 20-year-old Jeffrey Delgado.

An autopsy on Tuesday determined the cause of death to be a penetrating stab wound to the chest.
