Toronto police are investigating whether an eight-month-old girl found abandoned in a cold North York plaza stairwell is an American resident.

Police say "it's not normal" that no one has come forward with information about the infant's identity, despite the case being highly publicized.

The baby's picture has been shown by Toronto-area media outlets since the girl was discovered on Wednesday afternoon, and now news organizations in Buffalo have circulated the photograph and published details about the case.

The Children's Aid Society of Toronto said Friday they have named the girl Angelica-Leslie because the toddler looks "like an angel" and was found on Leslie Street.

The society said she is doing well and has found a foster home. The agency also revealed Angelica-Leslie had bruises consistent with physical abuse.

The Children's Aid Society says it will be going to court on Monday to seek guardianship for one month.

Investigators, meanwhile, are looking for a car described as a 1997-2000 model green four-door Ford Escort. Surveillance footage released by police on Thursday shows the driver get out of the vehicle with the girl, dump her and then flee the scene.
