Another teen has been shot in Toronto's troubled Jane-Finch community, police said Monday.

The male victim was not seriously injured and admitted himself to hospital for treatment. The shooting comes just a day after another teen was shot in the eye on the same street.

Driftwood Court has seen a number of shootings this past year, one that ended in murder. Residents say they have had enough of the violence and they're afraid for the safety of their families.

"I'm in my house yesterday and all I hear is 'pow, pow'," said Karlene Blackwood, a local resident who heard the gunshots. She said she avoids standing near her door because she's scared she's going to be hit. Her townhouse faces the courtyard where gunfights have broken out.

Bullets have pierced her house more than once in the crossfire.

"I've got five bullet (holes) in my window," she said. "It is life-threatening for my kids."

Police say that while the neighbourhood has its troubles, they believe the violence is seeping in from other communities.

"Our belief is that a lot of these suspects involved in the shootings are not from the neighbourhood," said Insp. Mike Earl, noting that many of the shootings are a result of someone seeking revenge for something that happened in another community.

Marie Smith, who also lives in the area, said she hopes the neighbourhood will improve with more parents speaking to their children about hope and options outside the gang lifestyle.

"I see hope in this area, it's just a matter of communicating a lot," she said.
