Police are now calling the death of a woman in a Mississauga hotel room fire “a homicide.”

Evelyn Bumatay Castillo, a 43-year-old resident of Thornhill, Ont., was found without vital signs on Saturday evening following a fire inside a room at the Quality Inn.

Police responded to the call at 50 Britannia Road East shortly after 6:30 p.m. Saturday evening.

The victim was taken to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

“The continuing investigation and post mortem results have revealed that Castillo died as a result of foul play,” Peel Police said Monday. “The investigation is now being led by the Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau.”
