TORONTO - Police in Oshawa are looking into reports that an 18-month old infant was seen falling out of a moving vehicle.

Several witnesses told Durham Region police the child was ejected from a moving SUV Thursday evening.

Witnesses say they saw the driver stop and place the infant back inside the vehicle before driving away.

Somebody jotted down a license plate number that led officers to an address in northwest Oshawa where the infant was found living in squalid conditions in the care of his grandfather.

The child was suffering from a large bump on his head and abrasions and was held overnight in hospital for observations.

The Children's Aid Society was contacted and the incident remains under investigation.
