Andre Daley has been identified as the city's 44th homicide victim of 2009, one of five people hit with bullets in a drive-by shooting early Sunday.

Police said Wednesday in a news release that Daley had died of "multiple gunshot wounds to the body."

The shooting took place outside the First Choice restaurant and bar at 3835 Keele St. near Sheppard Avenue.

Three people, including Daley, were taken to hospital. Two other men made it there on their own.

The manager of the plaza has said he's been concerned about the increasing number of violent incidents in the area and had tried hiring private security.

Homicide detectives are asking the public's assistance locating an older-model dark blue or dark green van with missing or damaged windows and a damaged rear taillight that may have been used in the shooting.

Anyone who attended the First Choice Restaurant in the early morning hours of Sunday or otherwise has information about what happened is asked to contact police at 416−808−7400, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416−222−TIPS (8477), online at www.222tips.com, or text TOR and a message to CRIMES (274637).
