Durham Regional Police have taken two men into custody following an investigation into a suspected drug lab in Pickering.

Police executed a search at 925 Bayly Street in Pickering on Friday and arrested two male suspects at the residence.

Sgt. Brent Hill, of the RCMP, confirmed to CP24 that the home was being used as a meth lab and said police were granted a search warrant after receiving “information” from the public.

Hill said officers are expected to remain on the scene for several hours as emergency crews work to dismantle the lab.

“We had to deal with the safety hazards and we ensured that there was no clandestine lab operating at the time,” Hill told CP24.

“Since that’s been taken care of, the officers have been extracting all the dangerous chemicals and they are separating them out into various sections for safety,” he said.

Hill called the items in the home “sophisticated” pieces of equipment that would most likely be found in a chemistry lab.

Police say the two suspects are currently being held at an Oshawa police station, and charges are pending.

The men are scheduled to appear for a bail hearing Saturday morning.
