MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - Ontario's police watchdog has cleared two Peel regional police officers after a man was shot while allegedly driving a vehicle at one of them in Brampton.

The Special Investigations Unit says uniformed police intervened in an incident involving a man and woman on Nov. 13 and shouted at 24-year-old Terrence Roopchand that they were Peel officers.

One officer stood in front of Roopchand's car and the SIU says the man accelerated toward the officer.

Police fired eight rounds at his vehicle.

Roopchand later went to a hospital with two bullet wounds.

SIU director Ian Scott says the officers were justified in opening fire and there are no reasonable grounds to charge them with a criminal offence.
