AJAX, Ont. -- Police say a 31-year-old Ajax man is dead after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in the community east of Toronto.
Officers were called to the scene (on Kingston Road East, east of Salem Road) on Sunday evening for a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.
Police say evidence and witness statements indicate the car was travelling eastbound (on Kingston Road East) and struck the pedestrian as he was walking southbound across the road, against the red light.
The pedestrian was rushed by EMS to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the vehicle was not physically injured.
The roadway was closed for several hours while police investigated the incident and collected evidence from the scene.
