Ontario is once again speaking with a private company about creating a rapid transit link from the airport to Toronto's downtown core.

The Liberal government is speaking with SNC-Lavalin about the project and are said to be pushing to get construction on the link done as soon as possible.

The province has decided to streamline the environmental assessment for the rail link in order to put this project plus other transit initiatives on the fast track.

The link would allow people travelling between Pearson International Airport and Toronto's Union station to arrive in 22 minutes. There is no current direct transit route between the two destinations but Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty and Toronto Mayor David Miller have both been vocal about their support for the idea.

Previous talks about a transit route sparked a lot of debate among west end residents who had concerns about how the link would impact their environment.

Some reports suggest the province wants a deal in place by the fall.
