Investigators are still hunting for Sonia Varaschin's killer, one year after the 42-year-old nurse's lifeless body was discovered in a wooded area near her Orangeville home.

Varaschin was reported missing after she didn't show up for work in late August, 2010. Her remains were discovered in a rural area in the Town of Caledon less than a week later.

Provincial police spent eight months hunting for her killer before assigning a new lead investigator to the case. Last May, OPP Det. Andy Karski told CTV Toronto that Varaschin's personal conflicts were being probed for clues.

Karski is still at the helm of the investigation.

Officers assigned to the Varaschin case have used DNA samples and criminal profiles to assist with their search.

In a statement, the OPP said they believe the collection of DNA, particularly, will help identify Varaschin's killer and "bring a sense of closure to both her family and the community."

Orangeville is a town of nearly 28,000 that is located about 80 kilometres northwest of Toronto. Varaschin lived in a townhouse near the local highway that leads into the town.
