A woman in her 80s has died following a two-vehicle collision in Vaughan on Sunday afternoon, say police.

The victim, who has not been named, was a passenger in one of the vehicles involved in the crash, York Regional Police said.

They said that the victim was transported to the Mackenzie Health hospital in Richmond Hill where she was pronounced deceased.

Police said another person was taken to the hospital with what they described as minor injuries.

The crash happened at the intersection of Dufferin Street and Major Mackenzie Drive West. Police said they were called to that area at around 1:17 p.m.

The major collision unit now is looking into the collision and the intersection remains closed as they investigate. It is expected to remain closed for some time, they said.

Police are urging drivers to take alternate routes.
