Toronto police are investigating a stabbing at a house in Etobicoke that left one man dead Thursday afternoon.

Officers were called to a residence at Bemersyde Drive and Bournemouth Road, in the area of Kipling Avenue and Eglinton Avenue West, shortly after 2 p.m.

When they arrived, officers located an elderly male victim with injuries. He was later pronounced dead.

"A younger male who was residing at the same address was arrested and taken into custody without incident," Det. Sgt. Philip Campbell said.

The suspect and the victim were family, he said, but did not elaborate further on their specific relationship.

Campbell said no one else was injured in the incident. "We do not believe there's any concern for any more public safety," he added.

The circumstances surrounding the stabbing are unknown. Campbell said police do not have information if there were other people in the home at the time of the incident and where the stabbing exactly occurred.

"It's very early for that. We still have to investigate a couple of things," he said.

As for the weapon, Campbell could not say if police had recovered it and what type it was.

He is asking neighbours or anyone with information about the incident to contact homicide investigators or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
