The number of confirmed and suspected cases in an E. coli outbreak in North Bay, Ont., has risen to 131.

Health officials say 22 of those are lab confirmed, and another 22 meet their case definition.

Included in the totals are cases being investigated by four other Ontario health units.

The local health unit has linked the outbreak to a local Harvey's restaurant, which has been closed since Sunday evening.

The ages of those who have become ill range from one to 84.

Medical officer of health Dr. Catherine Whiting stresses people who are ill with E. coli must take precautions to prevent its spread to others, such as proper handwashing.
