TORONTO - Premier Dalton McGuinty is shooting down a proposal by Toronto for a new casino or to sell Ontario wines in corner stores.

McGuinty says the province did not give the city those kinds of powers under the new City of Toronto Act.

McGuinty says the province reviewed gambling in the province and decided there was no room for new casinos.

He also says the city doesn't have the authority to allow wine in corner stores.

McGuinty says he's "not attracted'' to that idea.

Some Toronto councillors are seeking a full city-owned and operated casino.

They also want the province to look at allowing sales of Ontario wine and beer in convenience stores, saying the idea has been around for years and deserves a full hearing.
