TORONTO - Staff at the Art Gallery of Ontario have voted in favour of a new two-year contract.

OPSEU and the gallery reached a tentative deal last Friday for almost 450 full-time and part-time employees, just ahead of a strike.

The union says the key issues of tougher language on job security, layoffs and full-time work were addressed in the new deal.

Part-time employees who were previously capped at 24 hours per week will now be able to work up to 35 hours per week.

OPSEU says the agreement also prevents the carving up of full-time jobs into part-time work.

Another key gain is that employees who work 1,456 hours in a year must now be offered full-time status.
