A downtown Swiss Chalet was robbed late Saturday night with at least one person being held hostage, police said Sunday.

Toronto police said two masked men barged into the restaurant, located on Bloor Street near Sherbourne Street, at around 10:30 p.m.

The manager told police one suspect was armed with a gun and the other was holding a large knife. He said the men ushered him into the management office.

A waitress ran into a nearby shopping concourse and screamed for help, police said.

Bloor was shut down between Jarvis and Sherbourne Streets until about 1 a.m. as the police Emergency Task Force unit moved in and surrounded the restaurant.

Nobody was injured in the incident but the two suspects managed to get away with about $200, a wallet and a cellphone.

Police say they don't have a good description of the suspects but witnesses described one man as being tall, about 6'2" and slender and the other as being shorter, around 5'10" and chubby.

Investigators say they're hoping the public will help them identify the culprits. Anyone with information is being asked to call the police Hold-up Squad at 416-808-5370.
