TORONTO - The New Democrats want the HST stripped from home heating bills in the upcoming Ontario budget.

The party is also calling for the governing Liberals to replace corporate tax cuts with refundable tax credits that would reward businesses for investing and creating jobs.

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says the vast majority of the tax cuts will benefit just eight companies that dominate the province's financial sectors.

She says the government should also impose a hard cap on the salaries of CEOs in the public sector, like hospitals.

Horwath says the next budget needs to focus on making life more affordable for families because Ontario still lags behind other provinces in recovering jobs that were lost during the recession.

Finance Minister Dwight Duncan is planning to table the budget March 29.
