Police say that alcohol was a factor in a single-vehicle crash near the Don Valley which sent a woman and a young child to hospital with serious injuries early Sunday.

Officers received a call about the crash before 6 a.m. and responded to the ramp area between Bloor Street East and Bayview Avenue.

Police say that the male driver lost control of the vehicle, swerved off the roadway and ended up in the ditch.

A two-year-old girl and the female passenger, believed to be the toddler's mother, suffered life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital.

The male driver is now facing impaired driving charges. His name hasn't been released.
